Bartow, Florida
Perhaps no other town in Central Florida can boast such a rich and influential history as Bartow. The city's founding fathers were early Governors of Florida, United States Senators and writers of Florida's State Constitution. Many military leaders also made their home in what was known as Fort Blount, as the town was named when it was founded in October 1851. In 1887 Jacob Summerlin, a wealthy cattle baron, donated 100 acres to ensure that Bartow was established as the County Seat of Polk County.
Bartow's moss-draped oaks and colorful azaleas frame numerous lovingly restored architectural treasures, most of which remain private residences and many which appear on the National Register of Historic Places. One of the most popular destinations in Bartow is the 1908 neoclassic Polk County Courthouse (now the Polk County Historical Museum) with it's beautiful and distinguished silver dome reflecting the warm Florida sunshine.
The Stanford Inn is the area's only bed and breakfast allowing visitors to experience and live the rich history and Southern hospitality of this beautiful small town.
